BELHAVEN SURF CLUB

BELHAVEN SURF CLUB

The Belhaven surf club was created as an informal surf club in 2007 with local surfers getting together for socials and national competitions. The club placed 2nd twice in the Gathering of the Clans, Scotlands club competition, the most recent in 2019.

In 2019 the new Belhaven surf centre was built with one of the core aims to become a performance base for our young local surfers. In early 2021, coast to coast teamed up with some very keen local parents to re launch the Belhaven Surf club and a new high performance junior surf team which officially launched in December 2021.

In 2021 the Scottish Surfing Federation also launched a new junior series of competitions around Scotland and Belhaven (BHSC) had finalists in the Thurso, Pease Bay and Fraserburgh competitions.

In 2023 we had 6 kids represent the Scottish team or attend Scottish team training as part of Future junior select teams (for younger promising surfers with potential to be future national team surfers) and the club had 10 kids that made podium finishes in national events in 2023. With formal coaching (12-20 surf or skate sessions a year) and a one week summer training camp the club goes from success to success.

In 2024 we will be doing a trial for 10-12year olds inviting eight new young members to the team – 4 girls and 4 boys We are also looking to replace three older kids who have graduated as have just turned 18yrs. Again we are looking at two girls and one boy aged 13yrs-17yrs as we look to have a 50/50 balance in boys/ girls by 2025 in the team.

On the competition side we will host the Pease junior event in September and also partner with Coast to Coast joint hosting the National longboard championships at Pease Bay in April 2024.

To find out more check out our Belhaven Surf Club Facebook and Instagram pages.

If interested in team selection – young surfers should do one of the following (a) send video to coast to coast surf school (b) impress in coast to coast lessons (c) do well in the junior surf competition circuit (d) attend one of our trials and impress.

To be considered you must be riding unbroken waves consistently and the older you are the more we expect to see. Coast to Coast also run development courses so this is a good way to get noticed and or get help improving your surfing to make the next step up to the high performance club team. It also helps to be within an hours drive of Dunbar and flexible to get to training on Friday afternoons. We expect all of our team to attend two competitions a year so this is a requirement of the competition team.

Or get in contact with Coast to Coast for how to join the team. www.c2csurfschool.com
